Executives, do you only learn your processes when something goes wrong?

Executives: When was the last time you watched your own process end-to-end, on a normal day, with no Joint Commission, no crisis, and no warning? If you only ‘learn’ your processes when something is going wrong, that is not leadership; that is damage control. That is how you trained your managers to hear, ‘C‑suite is involved’ as code for, ‘something is really bad’ instead of, ‘leadership is here to see the work and fix the system.’ If your staff only see you for damage control, discipline, or survey week, they are learning to brace for you rather than trust you.
Leadership is not just your title; it is how often you are willing to walk your own process when nothing is on fire.”
