Respect Before Change

 Respect Before Change

You can't lead what you don't respect.
Every hospital department has its own language, physics, and its own ways of breaking down. Sterile processing. Pharmacy. Lab. Imaging. It doesn't matter which one.
Sooner or later, someone leads a department they didn't come up in. The people already there quickly recognize whether that leader understands the fundamentals.

Not the title. The work.
Without that understanding, trust can disappear before the first change is announced. The leader's first job isn't to change the work; it's to earn the trust that makes change possible.

The leaders who last take a different approach. They learn the processes first. They ask why a practice exists before deciding it's wrong. There's usually a reason, even when it looks wrong from the outside.
They earn trust before they build change.
That's not a sterile processing thing. It's a leadership thing.

Respect first. Then change. Not the other way around.
